COMPETITION DETAILS FOR DAY 3 CAN BE FOUND AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS ARTICLE

It’s been a tough year for everyone in Stockport, with our town placed under the strictest restrictions for the majority of 2020. Stuck in Tier 3 for the next few weeks at least, unfortunately things don’t look like improving any time soon. Here at The Viaduct, we’d love to make life better for Stopfordians if we could, but we can’t let you go and have a few beers on the Market. Or pop over to Redrock to catch a film. Or even enjoy a Christmas show at the Plaza. But we are going to try and cheer you up if we can, with the launch of The Viaduct Advent Calendar, running every single day from now until Christmas Day!

It’s been a very testing time for businesses across Stockport this year, and in a show of solidarity, we’ve offered them free advertising throughout November and December to display our support. In return, many of your favourite businesses from across the town have kindly donated prizes that we’re going to be giving away to our readers every day. Open up The Viaduct Advent Calendar each day and you’ll find chocolates, alcohol, artwork, gifts for the home, music, gift vouchers and lots of other wonderful treats in store!

We’ve given away chocolates and alcohol over the first couple of days, so today we thought we’d go with something that will last a little bit longer. Perfect for the Stockport County fan in your life, we’ve got a stunning A4 print from Penno Draws. County fans took to Twitter recently to vote for the club’s all time greatest team, featuring the likes of Mike Flynn, Jim Gannon and Kevin Francis. Penno Draws have taken that vote and turned it into this wonderful, nostalgic print featuring the illustrations of all eleven players, as well as legendary manager Danny Bergara.

To win our Day 3 prize, please answer the question at the bottom of this article. Also, take a few moments to read our short interview with Ric, and check out his contact details as well if you’re looking to purchase any football prints for friends or family this Christmas. Ric has lots more County ones available, as well as Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and plenty of other clubs at home and abroad.

5 QUESTIONS WITH RIC PENNINGTON

Who would win in an art competition, you or Banksy?
Banksy 100 percent. He’s far more creative and witty than I could ever be. If I was Banksy I’d definitely have been caught by now.

How did you get into art?
Really enjoyed it in school then didn’t do it for years. Started drawing with my son by hand and then moved on to illustration on the computer.

If you could go anywhere in the world right now, to draw any landmark, where would you go?
The San Siro in Milan – my favourite stadium as a kid. Can’t believe they are tearing it down soon.

What’s your favourite place in Stockport for inspiration?
Stockport Old Town or Edgeley Park. Both iconic places.

What item has been the most popular customers are buying from you for Christmas?
Stockport County prints have always been popular but I’ve recently done quite a few Serie A prints and a Blossoms one.

  1. County vs curzon ashton 22 april 2018. Pretty Unremarkable game apart from the Final two minutes when chorley missed a penalty and then conceded meaning we went top of the league With one game to go. The rest is history!

  2. Kerry Appleyard

13th May 1992. Playoff semi final.
The result, atmosphere, kickoff with Jim/Stein. Had everything.

  4. Bradley Bennett

Nuneaton away when we won the league.
Getting onto the pitch at full time and running to the players with my little brother on my shoulders. What a day

  5. Definitely Chesterfield away. What an amazing night. I even liked Ken Charley that night!! Thank you to Brett Angelo for The goal That made that season my best ever.

  6. Mark Greenhalgh

There have been many over the years but curzon at home 2019 just Takes it. The atmosphere was amazing. When glen taylor scored for Spennymoor we all went ape. Special.

  7. Jayne darlington

Not been going to county for as long as a lot of folks, but has to be Curzon Ashton at home in 2019. Had been to our first away match at Chorley and so down after that. The rollercoaster of emotions at the Curzon in match was unbelievable, finding out Chorley had missed a penalty, then seeing the Cheadle end start to rise and celebrate the Spennymoor winner and the news spreading to us gave me goosebumps and still Does.

  8. While the Wembley win V Rochdale was magical after attending our other glorious failures there, I think mine is County V Peterborough League division 4 12th August 1972. My first game, taken by my late dad, that was it hooked for life ,through thick and thin, a magical 3-2 win

  9. Hednesford away for my 50th with my County family – being sung to by the whole pub pre-match and 6 pints in; Losing Bill in a forest; playing crap but Odejiyi winning ot with a last gasp winner; waking up in the morning and amazingly remembering it all! Away day magic.

  10. Wycombe at home that proudlock hattrick …. away game oooh theirs been a few.. p’boro away was class as was accrington away not long after danny pilkington had signed pro terms with us….
