COMPETITION DETAILS FOR DAY 2 CAN BE FOUND AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS ARTICLE

It’s been a tough year for everyone in Stockport, with our town placed under the strictest restrictions for the majority of 2020. Stuck in Tier 3 for the next few weeks at least, unfortunately things don’t look like improving any time soon. Here at The Viaduct, we’d love to make life better for Stopfordians if we could, but we can’t let you go and have a few beers on the Market. Or pop over to Redrock to catch a film. Or even enjoy a Christmas show at the Plaza. But we are going to try and cheer you up if we can, with the launch of The Viaduct Advent Calendar, running every single day from now until Christmas Day!

It’s been a very testing time for businesses across Stockport this year, and in a show of solidarity, we’ve offered them free advertising throughout November and December to display our support. In return, many of your favourite businesses from across the town have kindly donated prizes that we’re going to be giving away to our readers every day. Open up The Viaduct Advent Calendar each day and you’ll find chocolates, alcohol, artwork, gifts for the home, music, gift vouchers and lots of other wonderful treats in store!

We brought you chocolates on Day 1, and we’ve decided to go with alcohol on Day 2, with a five litre mini keg of Monkey Business from Fool Hardy Ales. This particular tipple is a 3.9% light, hoppy session ale. If you haven’t heard of Fool Hardy Ales before, it is the prolific onsite micro-brewery at The Hope Inn, situated on the A6 between Stockport and Heaton Chapel. Martin Wood is the owner, and regularly produces award-winning ales, so this is another competition that’s well worth winning!

To win our Day 2 prize, please answer the question at the bottom of this article. Also, take a few moments to read our short interview with Martin, and check out his contact details as well to purchase a tipple or two for those family members who would love getting stuck into some fine ales on Christmas Day!

5 QUESTIONS WITH MARTIN WOOD

What’s the most drunk you’ve ever been?
I’ve been in some states over the years. One of the most drunk occasions was probably a Christmas do when I went to the toilet and fell asleep for four hours, missing the majority of the party.

Of all the beers you brew, which one is your favourite?
My favourite beer is Ragabash, a traditional porter with some really nice chocolate malt coming through.

How will your business cope with the latest restrictions?
I can’t really answer that at the moment, but it’s going to be really tough.

If you could go on a pub crawl with any five people, past or present, who would you choose?
Leonardo da Vinci, Michael Schumacher, Elvis Presley, Buddy Rich and Barack Obama.

What’s the best night you’ve had in your pub?
That’s a really difficult question. When the Fairy Engine Brass Band play every Christmas that’s always a great night.
