The Viaduct Story

Stockport County. Blossoms. Michelle Keegan. Enjoying a show at Stockport Plaza. Fred Perry. Stockport Gin. Robinson’s Brewery. The Viaduct. The Town Hall lit up at night. Having a wander round Stockport Market. Taking a stroll through Bramhall Park. Bamboo till 2. Daz Sampson. Millions being spent on residential and commercial projects across the town. Stopping off at Mustaph’s for a takeaway. The Hat Works. Watching a new film at Redrock. The Pyramid. Karaoke and a bacon barm at Bredbury Hall at four in the morning. The 192. The Air Raid Shelters. Strawberry Studios.

Stockport’s not a bad old town is it? It’s home. And not just any home, but a warm, cosy, welcoming one. Could maybe do with a lick of paint here and there. But generally speaking, this little corner of Cheshire is a nice place to live, work and play. (Without wishing to sound too much like the old Mars bar advert.)

So what is The Viaduct? Well, it’s a website. Obviously. And it’s here to promote this wonderful town, as well as publishing news, reviews, interviews and anything else we find interesting within the SK postcode. Having said that, we’ll venture further afield from time to time as well. We all live in Stockport, but we like to go on days out and holidays when we can. And with fantastic cities such as Manchester, Liverpool and Chester on our doorstep, as well as Manchester Airport on hand to jet us off to sunnier climes, we’ll head out across the UK and abroad if we find something interesting to write about. In a nutshell, there’s approximately 300,000 people living in Stockport, and The Viaduct is here to inform and entertain all of you. (If you don’t live in Stockport but you’re reading this, you are more than welcome to keep reading obviously. In fact, why not come and move here. It’s a great town. Although be quick as house prices are going through the roof at the moment.) The Viaduct was launched in 2020 by Des Hinks Junior. He was born in Stockport. Went to school in Stockport. Lost his virginity in Stockport. Watched around 1,000 Stockport County games. Worked in Stockport. Done karaoke in Stockport. Played football in Stockport. Broke both arms and both feet in Stockport. Basically, he’s very Stockport. So hopefully he’s in a good position to explore the nooks and crannies of this town, from Heaton Moor to Hazel Grove, Bramhall to Bredbury, Reddish to Romiley, and everywhere in between, to bring you fun and interesting content on a regular basis. If you have anything at all you’d like to promote in Stockport, whether it’s a business, a product, an event, a service or anything else you can think of, please get in touch and we can put together a fantastic package for you. Simply email des@theviaduct.uk

In the meantime, here’s to a big night out at Bredbury Hall once Covid restrictions are lifted, a brand new Stockport train station, and Stockport County celebrating a return to the Football League in a few
months’ time.
